ENFOLD DARKNESS - Adversary Omnipotent

Straight outta Nashville: wo sich normalerweise Country-Stars die Klinke in die Hand geben, werkeln ENFOLD DARKNESS seit 2005 an ihrem europäisch inspirierten Black Death Metal.

Auf „Adversary Omnipotent”, ihr zweites Full-Length Album, haben die Amis 13 Songs (wie passend!) gepackt, die irgendwo zwischen krächzendem Black Metal und technischem Death Metal mit einem leicht melodischen Einschlag schwanken.

Nach dem eher gemächlichen Intro startet das Album mit „Lairs Of The Ascended Masters” schon programmatisch: der rasende Black Metal, gepaart mit Melo-Death-Riffs und Prog-Anteilen, steht ganz gut für das gesamte Album. Und dass die Jungs schon einige Jahre Musik machen, merkt man: viele Parts auf „Adversary Omnipotent“ sind echt gelungen, feine Leads hier, weltverachtende Vocals dort, und immer wieder feine, nach vorne peitschende Black- und Death-Riffs.

Allein, so ganz zusammen kommen die Teile nicht, und nach den meisten gelungenen Parts, die zu einem Aufhorchen führen, kommt nichts Passendes nach, sodass das Interesse bald wieder erlahmt. Am besten gelingen ENFOLD DARKNESS noch die Songs, wo schöne Melo-Leads in tiefschwarze Raserei führen, wie etwa bei „The Sacred Daemonic“, „Banishment“ oder „Terror Of A Perilous Quest“. Und viele Songs erinnern frappant an CRADLE OF FILTH oder DIMMU BORGIR (man höre z.B. den Titeltrack, der auch ganz gut auf „In Sorte Diaboli“ gepasst hätte), aber es sind zumindest gelungen Kopien.

Unterm Strich bleibt jedoch zu wenig von „Adversary Omnipotent“ im Gedächtnis hängen, und man wünscht sich vielleicht, dass sich ENFOLD DARKNESS gleich viel Mühe bei der Komposition wie bei der Konstruktion der Background-Geschichte („For 100,000 years Na'ak Ba'ran has dominated the affairs of Et through the Narcillians.
